She has been a motivator speaker and guest to undergraduate underrepresented minorities and women at many universities serving to guide those interested in navigating the terrain of healthcare in the future. She has been a constant “go-to-on-the-spot” mentor for many undergraduate and medical students seeking support and tutelage on how to overcome the challenges and barriers that they face as underrepresented minorities and women.

“I cannot continue to sit in silence in an environment that is unapologetically harmful.”

She was a vocal champion for not only residents in her own program, but residents from other residency programs and medical students. She epitomizes what it looks like to be brave, professional, and steadfast in the face of unwavering adversity, overt discrimination, and unending subversions. An experience that is common to many POC in academia.

I wanted the opportunity to be amongst a leader in academia who was dedicated to training future physicians of color. Dr. Princess Dennar embodied strength, courage and determination in her role as program director.

She worked tirelessly to make sure we had quality clinical and educational experiences. She pushed me to be a better physician, educator, and advocate.

When I think of the one person who singularly helped propel my career forward, without a doubt it is Princess Dennar. In residency, she not only taught me how to be a patient centered primary care physician but also helped build my confidence.

Her passion for this program and the success of her residents were unmatched. Once I matched, I immediately felt a sense of warm embrace and support from the very personal phone call welcoming me on Match Day 2014.

Dr Dennar embodies a role model physician, community member, teacher, mentor, advocate and innovator to me and countless others.
